Rare Proof 1830-1840’s South Carolina Bank Of Hamburg $10 Proof PMG Choice UNC64

WE HAVE GREAT FEEDBACK. Now, here is the item that you came for. This Proof is thought to be one of only four known surviving examples. An attractive design featuring a large oval male portrait flanked by Cincinnatus and Industry. Interestingly, the end panels are each home to half of the South Carolina coat of arms. At one time, this appears to have been a single vignette, with the angel flying above clearly split in two. The note is printed on India paper with the usual POCs in the signature lines. Rare Charleston South Carolina Mary A Jackson Sweetgrass Gullah Gathering Basket

An important South Carolina Sweetgrass basket weaved by Mary A. Please review all the photos for condition and feel free to ask any question. This is jut one of two baskets I have listed by Mary Jackson. Dimensions: 7″ by 5 1/2″ by 2 1/2. Mary was born into the sweetgrass basket community of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. A tradition that originated in Western Africa and has been passed through generation after generation. During the summers Mary would gather with her family in her grandmothers yard and weave baskets, this was not only a good bonding experience, but one that was required for many to make a living. Mary learned the trade young and by the 1970’s she was making baskets seriously with her first solo exhibition at the Gibbes Musuem of Art in 1984. Since then her career has grown dramatically including several shows at the Smithsonian, Philadelphia Museum of Art and the American Craft Museum. She was also awarded the lifetime achievement from the National Museum for Women in Arts and furthermore was also featured in the Five Women in Crafts Exhibition at the Smithsonian’s Reneick Gallery in 2000. Her basket forms have been derived from family tradition passed down, but also some that she started to expirement with including the low basket held in the Smithsonian. As a result of a family tradition and countless hours of hard work, Mary has become one of the most recognized and accomplished sweetgrass weavers of our time. Her baskets have grown greatly in popularity and value, including being kept in prominent collections such as the Smithsonian, American Craft Museum and Collection of the White House. Rare vintage 1848 Geology of South Carolina book information from 175 yrs ago

This is an interesting book for any Geology educator or student. Also for any writer for researching information from 175 years ago. This book should be quite rare and came from an estate of antique books. This book measures 11 x 9 inches and has 394 pages not including the appendix. The book is quite detailed, even has a fold out map showing iron ore deposits. Also gold and mineral deposits for the state. Fossils are also discussed as well as rock formations. Please note the book is readable but there is yellowing and spotting on some pages. However other pages completely unaffected. Rare South Carolina 1817-28 Internal Improvement records race relations & map

This listing is for a scarce book that measures 10 by 7 inches and has 633 pages. It was limited to 400 copies and this one is number 22 signed by the editor. It is a facsimile edition for the state records and that has a 22″ x 19″ folding map in the front cover. The map has a tear with no missing area. The book shows the states proposals to build roads, develop swampland, canals, improve waterways and build a railroad. There is a copy of a letter by Thomas Jefferson thanking someone for a map. NOTE: The issue of slave labor is discussed as emancipation was needed. The state was really not in favor of what was happening and was looking for solutions to stop this practice. Slave trade abolition is discussed on pages 207-215. Also discussed was a proposed settlement back to Africa (later Liberia). Since only 400 books were printed 83 years ago no telling how many remain in private collections. This copy was part of an private collection and is in very good condition.
