1855 $20 The Bank of Chester Chester, SOUTH CAROLINA Note
This bank operated from 1853 until it failed in 1865. Earlier notes are printed with “Chesterville” as the town name but later notes were changed to “Chester” as the town name changed. This note features a detailed Vignette of an early locomotive above the bank title as well as a Vignette of Hope seated by a sailor holding the stars and stripes to the left. On the lower right is a portrait of a young woman. A fancy “TWENTY” protector is printed in red! This note grades Fine with a couple tiny holes on the bottom, pinholes, and some weakness / breaks on the watermark. ANA & SPMC member.
